We looked at this last year Krissy. You'll need to raise about £25k and also you'll need people who know what they're doing to put it all together - it's not a simple case of putting a tent up and getting a few bands, it's a very labourious and bureaucratic process.

And that's assuming the powers that be want you to go ahead or not.

Very doubtful this will be a realistic project, but good luck anyway - nobody can fault you for trying.

I know it's a bloody tall order! We wasn't thinking massive,though. Maybe 250-300 people tent tops. We've got the stage,lights,Tent,P.A pretty much sorted.
As you said though the main thing is the bureaucracy involved.
There's a market for it though so even if it just shows the powers that be that there's a lot of support from this kind of thing then at least we've given it a shot:)

Problem is, you need all the insurances, risk assessments, event plan etc. They might not even let you put your tent on there, depending what exactly it is. You'll have to use their own power supplier which is going to cost, and so many other licensing restrictions to abide by.

I reckon the rule of thumb in Cov is this:

If you're independent, you ain't got a chance. If you're part of the 'network', you'll be able to make an elephant levitate on it's own farts.

If we cant get a local band tent a niche local band tent wont happen

if you want to see good bands that weekend go to Supersonic in Brum

we have done a lot so far, from having a major plan put together to having backing of sponsorships to cover tent, pa, stage, lighting, power, crew etc to making national radio news and local press. + the bands that will play we have some awesome acts both, local, national, signed and unsigned.

but at the end of the day even if we are refused, we will still be happy with the fact we gave it all we had and didnt just go to them and say we want an alternative tent, sort it out.

so now we wait and see what happens next week

Totally agree - you got to give it a go and I hope you have some luck with it, I really do.

It should really be simple but unfortunately it's not with an event at this level. Having a major plan is great, but is this plan detailed in the proper manner? Can you demonstrate that you've done all your H&S work? Insurances? Are you aware of and can you comply with the requirements of the event licence? And so on and so on. All of these things will affect and probably change the plan you currently have.

As a helpful tip, read up on how to put an event manual together, because without this you won't get past the first fence. This should give you an idea of some of the bureaucracy you're up against.

And again - good luck - everyone said we couldn't make Covstock happen in the cathedral ruins, but we did. So give it your best shot.

good luck, i found CV One pretty approachable last year when we entertained the idea of sorting our own tent

If you can pull it off then fair fucking play, i'll be at Supersonic tho dooming it up

They messaged us yesterday saying they are still in discussions so at least they are thinking about it.
