Godiva Unsigned
Bands were due to be informed if they've made it into the top 20 by the 2nd of April with heats taking place in April/May.
I've not heard owt, and not read owt, so guess they're taking longer...
Anyone heard anything?
With all the Brum bands and surrounding area applying i wonder if some of the heats will be in brum? We could have cov bands trying to get fans to brum and vice versa, or they may split it up into cov and brum heat with the final being somewhere...
Keresley was bloody hard to get into with alot of applications, Godiva, going to be craaazy hard.
I'm interested to see who's made it, if i've not, then i'll be along to support any of you lot who make it (those who've applied).
Good luck all.
Thank god were playing Keresley, can't wait! (if there's anything i can do to help out on the day, let me know..)

Re: Godiva Unsigned
On their website it says if you haven't heard back by 2nd April then your not in the 20 bands selected, we never heard back so assume we won't have been selected.
Re: Godiva Unsigned
I've just assumed that they're not running on time as i've assumed that at least one of the bands connected with this website will have been selected. Surely? Im not sure who decided not to apply but with bands like Reubens, Echo, Shakletons, LRG, MiC, Pockets, to name but a few, i thought one would be in. So if anyones heard owt, do tell..

Re: Godiva Unsigned
I have a gut feeling that the 20 selected with all be relatively new or little known to lots of peeps round these parts to be fair mate. Can't say why, but i have a sneaking suspicion that it will be a bit of a shock card myself.

Thats certainly a possibility...Hopefully someone will know something.
By the way did you guys manage your 2 gigs last weekend? I heard you lot were short of a drummer.. I'd have put myspeft forward.

Re: Godiva Unsigned
we didn't enter, looking on the site it defo says bands selected will be informed by 2nd April.
i'd be highly puzzled if Reubens didn't make the cut, although tbf the way its all been handled this year nothing surprises me
without knowing anything i predict that Isolated Atoms and Arcadian Kicks both do well, even as far as winning. played with both and neither really impressed me that much on the nights we gigged with them

Re: Godiva Unsigned
Cheers dude, yeah managed by doing acoustic at one and full at the other. We could only do it because of Ciaran stood in for us, totally messed up with the double booking so we were lucky to be able to do either in fairness. Cheers for the offer of standing in chap, if we need a stand in again I'll check with you if that's cool chap?. I agree with you there Rig, Arcadian Kicks will be a main act though i think and maybe IA too, but who knows like, seems on the discussion boards AK and IA are wanted by almost everyone who posted.
Re: Godiva Unsigned
Yeah cool Martin.
Looking at the arcadian kicks gig schedule i dont think they've much time for any heats in April/May!!
Also from a quick myspace scan there seems to be no bands promoting anything godiva related..

Re: Godiva Unsigned
my only memory of arcadian kicks was they didn't even know how to soundcheck when we gigged with them, they just stood there looking really timid, took about an hour and then limited us to a 5 minute once through, good job we are pro enough to set up in 5 minutes! haha
its propaganda mate, they just took the effort to get everyone to post their name, called getting off their arse i guess although i was a little disappointed to see regular cov muso's also requesting them ahead of the real locals, seems quite a few want to dilute the cov based godiva

Re: Godiva Unsigned
If you've been picked there's prob a non disclosure agreement i would have thought, i hope you guys are right and their just delaying the selection, but i won't be holding my breath in anticipation anymore, just gonna carry on as if we wont be involved and book gigs up. Been waiting to hear from both Keresly and Godiva so haven't been able to book anything, but now, gonna book as many as poss.
Re: Godiva Unsigned
I wanna get a gig booked with some of you guys on here. (like the dole club). So if anyones interested in getting a venue booked with a few bands from here playing..? should be easy to make it a good night. Each band hauls a few of their devoted along, booze... job done

Re: Godiva Unsigned
I've been toying with the idea for a while now to be fair, I'm gonna look into the possibilities/options that are out there. If there's an avenue to put something together i think it's well worth at the very least investigating it, especially if we could get the right people involved who have different skill sets that would benefit the whole thing getting off the ground and organized. Like i said, gonna look into it and see whats possible and if you guys get anything let me know, I'll do the same like.
Re: Godiva Unsigned
Sounds good. In my mind its just a case of finding a nice venue with a minimal entrance fee for the crowd and 4 bands equally committed to pushing it.

Re: Godiva Unsigned
Why don't we do a Cov Music Scene all dayer somewhere? A purely selfish day of everyone getting up and doing a set and enjoying each other's music at somewhere like the Spencer?
Re: Godiva Unsigned
my tuppence on this last idea is that an alldayer could be alientating to some covmusicscene users when it's not poss to get all bands on an all dayer list?? as it clearly won't be! I think the idea of flash gigs organised by collaborating bands (ie. as Slim said) has a life that can run beyond - i work in the theatre biz and people co-produce with each other, ie. one organisation pools it resources with another - it can create a momentum and create a great event that can hand onto the next and the next..
so in short: bands make links, collaborate on an event, and then pass the template onto the next set of collaborators -?? i dunno I'm just riffing here but it presents a chance for a 'model' that being: focused intense gigs promoted by the bands themselves -

Re: Godiva Unsigned
I like the idea of "Flash Gigs", as the Friday Night Dole Club is going to be a solid monthly thing, i prefer the idea of a sort of spur of the moment gig that you advertise intensely for say a week before hand. Maybe and i admit I'm stretching here, maybe it would be cool if we say set it up so you join a sort of club, almost like they do in the rave scene well used to. Then you leave your email and mobile number with the club and when a flash gig is announced you get a txt or something that alerts that this week/month there's a flash gig and everyone should start pimping it. So it almost becomes a club not a night as such, then people can just pass on the details and get others to join. Sounds easier than it would be but i like that kind of idea, it's progressive i think.
Re: Godiva Unsigned
yeah i think that is exciting - needs honing and working out - but it's dynamic and inclusive and kind of more like what i imagine a 'scene' is if that makes sense
Re: Godiva Unsigned
I like the idea of a flash gig... There will be some aspects that'd need sorting out... Like if its a spur of the moment gig, the venue will need to have been booked way in advance for example.
I think this is very do-able. The text message idea is good. What i feel is most important though is a number of aspects need to be spot on in order for this to succeed:
1) A good venue (for sound, entry fee, reputation, beer cost)
2) 4 good bands (its essential that the crowd enjoy the whole night, and therefore come back!)
3) The bands must have committed members (each band must be equally determined to make the event a success)
If we can tick those 3 boxes, we're giving it every chance of success.

Re: Godiva Unsigned
I'm going to try and source some figures and details out for a venue over the next week to try and find one that will be able to offer what would be needed. I think if you get the entertainment right and offer competitive drinks prices all you need to do is promote it hard and it will work. Damn, offer peeps cheap drinks and a shit DJ and 8/10 would go regardless, so with us having a good show too, should sell itself eventually. Plus by doing them as a fleeting thing, like a whisper, out of the blue, you create a sense of "i don't wanna miss this one" and should get people more interested in whats going on. All conjecture as it stands, but thats what i think anyhow.
Re: Godiva Unsigned
Im all up for jumping in with organizing such a think aslong as its done right and only the most committed people are involved

Re: Godiva Unsigned
I wanted to do something different because i think the Dole Club will be a big night and didn't wanna copy your format like, so wanted to do something less formal and more sporadic really. Just a group that people join, so they can leave contact details so when a gig is being arranged those people who have actively sought to be informed will be able to know when the gig will be. If it's done right and passed around and builds up a chain of people all inviting each other, i think it could work. But it's just an idea really. Gratz on the Godiva thing by the way chap, at least someone from Coventry is involved
Re: Godiva Unsigned
We are also in the same boat as the Shackletons. Just waiting to hear back about the top 20.
Re: Godiva Unsigned
Excellent Dan, you'd be in my top 20 for sure, good luck also!!
