Would have gone to this if it wasn't for band practice. Sad

And the Kontours are playing just down the road on Saturday. Well no offence, but that is one sure way to cut potential audiences in half.

Excellent point well made, covs dead as it is without playing 2 venues in 1 week.

with the greatest respect to all concerned Rosie's and Bostons attract a rather different audiance and to be fair bands, especially young bands, need to be playing live regardless of the venue or its location. Booking gigs is not always undertaken thru choice as you'll all know first hand.

I have no idea what you are saying in that last sentence. But a realistic way of looking at gigs, is that the people the watch you wil be the other bands and the people you brought down and from my experience, that doesn't always happen either.

We used to have an ethos in The Way, to make every gig an event, play a couple of days apart and people think 'I won't bother, they playing next week anyway, I'll see them then'. But what would I know, I've only been gigging for 15 years.

I agree wholeheartedly with what you're saying there Dan, but also it has to be said that a young band like the Kontours SHOULD be jumping on every opportunity to play live and fine tune their stage craft.

They're a young band - they can worry about attendance numbers when they've got a few more years under their belts

a great thread and i think were all saying the same thing...god were all great eh Very Happy
all points made are fully accepted and agreed with.
The live music scene is an odd un here in Cov, and in general...theres not a great choice in venues and yeh it doesnt take long to kick the arse out of it...but gigging in any form has to be of benefit for a band starting out. And to be fair bringing on a young band these days, the occasional gig played to the bar staff is a bummer but still all part and parcel of the industry.
Seems venues struggle to attract a regular crowd who attend on the basis that live music is on...rather than venues structuring a night around the numbers of punters you might or might not bring with you. Not saying i know the answer to it...but in the mean time we just crack on.
Just my thoughts but i reckon its odd that alot of people moan about the scene whilst at the same time they seem not to get involved even if its just to venture out to check bands or nights out...apathy maybe??
