Don't forget to tell people the date!!!!

Do all of these listed gigs have no date on? I can't be bothered to look at them all to find out.

I've already said their facebook adverts are woefully lacking in information. I personally wouldn't even consider going to see bands i don't know if there's no information about the bands and what they sound like, etc.

Let's just say I'm the average punter who occasionally likes to go to gigs. I'm not going to go to the effort of looking up each and every band on a gig, so my point is that a promoter has to entice me to a gig with more than the fact one is happening.

I'm not saying I know everything about promoting, Saturday certainly proves that. But there are some basics, such as time and date. And when advertising on such mediums as Facebook, where I get shitloads, I appreciate extra effort.

I am sure once everything is in place the event will be promoted fully.

For anybody who doesn't know what S.O.P.H.I.E is all about I have copied a few words from the website, so everyone can understand.

S.O.P.H.I.E
Is run by a committee of family and
close friends who knew Sophie. The aims of the fund will be to provide
an appropriate memorial; a lasting legacy to raise awareness of the
injustice perpetrated against Sophie Lancaster and to work towards a
more tolerant, less violent society.

Sophie sadly died on August 24th 2007, following the
horrific attack on her and her partner Rob in Stubbeylee Park,
Bacup,Lancashire on the 11th August.
Sophie and Rob dressed in their
unique way, expressing their individuality as creative artistic people.

Sounds like a gig in aid of a worthy cause, good luck with it.
Also sounds like the bands are doing more to promote it than the promoter (so far), which I would find worrying (if involved).

Firstly, regarding Promotion, I have a pub to run and a disabled child to help look after, as well as being disbled myself. I do what promotion I can, and our Facebook gig listing does contain links to (almost) all the bands webpages/myspace site....if you can't be bothered to click a link or even cut & paste, would you like me to drink your pint for you as well?

Also, regarding promotion, we have just opened and at the moment, our beer garden is not yet ready, this gives us a strict capacity of 100 until it is ready (which should be by the end of this month) at which time, we will have a total capacity of 300 and a second 'bottle' bar in the beer garden. As the intelligent ones will understand, doing a promotion campaign will not only cost money, meaning that we would have to reduce the fees we are paying the bands, but maybe also increase our drink prices; something I am not willing to do; it will also mean that we would have to turn away customers, including our regulars that have supported us from day one, becuse we have reched our limit.

With regards the SOPHIE event, we will be getting the ball rolling as soon as we have at least five bands confirmed. This will be an all-day event, with a huge number of real ales avaliable in the beer garden (it's the last day of our Real Ale Festival). This means that, as long as you have an interest in 'Real' music (ie. anything you won't hear on Radio One) than we should have something for you.

Regarding Beholder, they are NOT a covers band, they will usually do two sets at any gig, their first being almost entirly their own material (including their charty single which is available for download, all proceeds go to the SOPHIE fund)...their second 'party' set is a set of covers, all of which, as covers should be, are done in Beholder's own unique style.

Remember this, where in Coventry City Centre will you have drinks at £2.50/pint/bottle/double AND FREE Live Music?

Oh please don't worry! Lol! Once again, and i seem to be repeating myself, WE ARE A PUB GOD DAMN IT! Not a music venue, we have beer, DJ's regular punters who just want somewhere to go where they can rock out! We don't have a specific promoter, we can only fit 100 peeps inside the place, which we already exceed as it is and until our beer garden is finished (bumping it up to a 300 capacity venue) We will manage just fine as we are! It's all about atmosphere, people enjoyng themelves, rockers from all sub genres feeling comfortable & part of something that has been lacking for years, knowing that whatever your age, if you're into rock, that's what you'll get with us!

I have been meaning to come in the pub (not music venue, huh?) and nearly made it when The Blackbelts were playing (as I know those guys) - will do soon.

By the way, re this grief you seem to be having with Mithy - he's a damn decent bloke who's only been telling you the same as I just have, ie. folks round here get bombarded with new gig ads all the time, so if you're promoting gigs (and you are, by putting them on here at all) then you've gotta cough up band info, web links etc yourself.
